Key results - Malaria
The malaria programme (no longer funded by the Global Fund) targeted the general population, pregnant women, and children under the age five. With Global Fund and UNDP support, the country has achieved high rates of coverage of insecticide treated bed nets, indoor residual spraying, and diagnostic testing, and has delivered sufficient ACTs to treat all patients with malaria attending public health facilities.
15,151 bed nets distributed in 2017, to complement the mass distribution of bed nets executed in 2015. A large part of population including pregnant women and children under five already had a bed net in good condition. During 2012–2016, malaria morbidity (incidence) dropped from 65.5 to 11.3 cases per 1,000 inhabitants, and malaria mortality decreased from 3.9 to 0.5 cases per 100,000 inhabitants.
